Where it unfolds
A small island in the southwest Indian Ocean, where the sea is the colour of glass and the air smells of frangipani after rain. This is where the families gather, and where the wedding will happen.

Where it sits
Mauritius is a volcanic island about the size of a long city, set off the southeast coast of Africa, in the same warm corner of the Indian Ocean as Madagascar and Réunion. The east coast, where most of the celebrations take place, is fringed by lagoons protected by a coral reef, the water still and shallow for hundreds of metres before it deepens.
Why here
Both families have roots that go back several generations on the island. The grandparents speak Bhojpuri at home, the parents grew up between Port Louis and the highlands, and the cousins are scattered across the world. A wedding in Mauritius is the one moment everyone, on every continent, comes back for.
What to expect
The week is held in the rhythm both families have always known. Family rituals open the celebrations in a small private setting in the highlands, and the larger ceremonies follow on the east coast, by the lagoon. Each event has its own colour, its own music, its own time of day.
“We are bringing two families to one island for one quiet, joyful week.”— Keshav & Sanjna
